I've been stewing over a frog prince sketch for while now, and finally decided (since the week was slow) to give it a go with a batch of sugar cookies. Plus, I grabbed a few new cutters the last time I was in the city and couldn't pass of the chance to make some pretty scallop edged cookies and test out Callye's latest how to on her blog over at The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle . Smurfy Idea! Using Up Cake Cut Offs
This weekend I wrapped up making a Mario Brothers cake for little boy who rides my Dad's school bus. I overestimated on the icing though and was extremely long! Not wanting the icing to go to waste (or have to be frozen), I turned the overage into some sweet little triple decker cakes for the evenings dessert. Being frugule I cut out circles with a round cookie cutter from the cake cut offs (so the cakes would be "level"). These cake circles where not all even layers, so what they lacked in evenness I made up for in buttercream filling!

Yummy Vanilla Cupcakes
Over the past little while I have been on a search for new recipes and was fortunate enough to come across this one from Glorious Treats for these Fantastic CUPCAKELICIOUS vanilla cupcakes. Up until now I had never really used cake flour for any recipe simply due to availabilty in my pantry...but now I am a believer and may very well make this a staple in my baking pantry. I have yet to try this recipe with just regular flour {because it's what we all have in our kitchens}...so once I do I will report to you my findings.

Happy Heart Day!
Wow! I am actually ahead of schedule with regards to this post - as promised to you in my 2012 list of things to do {let's just hope this is a glimpse of what is still to come for timelyness for the rest of the year!}. Looking back at Carolyn from Occassional Cookies and her savy ways to reinvent the basic sugar cookie into whimsical creations I felt it my due diligence to make up heart themed lollies too to compliment her line up of Christmas trees, wreaths, pumpkins and apples etc. and let's not forget her Halloween themed lollies {now a close second since I made these cute hearts}.

Super Mom Seeks Job, Salary WELCOME!
Another year over, 2011 is done and gone - it's time for a fresh start...what's on the bucket list? To be quite frank I hadn't a clue about "bucket" lists until a few years ago. I don't have a formal one, perhaps I need to start because then if I have it in writing maybe I'd stay on track better and not let my mind wander so easily from idea to idea. Call it what you will, ADD, ADHD, OCD...or perhaps it's simply because of my trying to keep track of everyone's activitites and the hubbies travel schedule amidst trying to keep myself together {and the house and all it encompasses}.

Gingerbread Play Dough
Both my children began their Christmas break on Dec 23 and all joking aside, about 2 hours after they awoke my son made the official announcement..."I'M BORED!!! THERE IS NOTHING TO DO." Seriously, you have been awake for 2 hours on your first day of Christmas break and this is how we start off? Oh boy! In my madness and desperation to finish up my own baking to share with family and friends in the following weeks I had to think fast...what could we do? So, I resorted to a never fail staple in my house (...for me): May I (re)introduce Callye (yes, again...) from The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle and her WONDERFUL festive spin on an old necessity for parents of small children - PLAY DOUGH... but not your everyday playdough, G-I-N-G-E-R-B-R-E-A-D scented. Note how I said scented, NOT flavoured, yup...still tastes gross, so don't let your little kiddies eat it... {or the dog}.
